Finding a map image … heck … Just a map!! Searching a map image on the net? Don’t let it turn out to be frustrating search experience. Life is hard enough already. There are plenty of maps available on the Internet, but probably just not the one map you are looking for. Or … maybe it is somewhere, but you will have a hard time to find it. Either way, maybe your map-hunt could end here.
But before we end the hunt, let’s look again at your search process. By the way, if you came here without hunting hours for the ideal image, you are the lucky one.
Finding map images – Step 1: Turning to Search EnginesYou are probably “map hunting” for a while already. Heck, with over 2.7 million maps on Google-Images alone (keyword “map”), it can’t be so difficult to find the one you are looking for or? Unfortunately, most of the maps you are finding on websites are not even coming close to the one you have on your mind. Getting closer – Step 2: Explain the Search Engine what map you wantYou know exactly what kind of map you want, don't you? Probably the map you are looking for is not even that complicated! So it can’t be so difficult to find that map, you just type in “map of …” in your favorite search engine and it should come up. Well, the map you are searching probably will NOT come up. While search engines are great, they are still not offering a great communication interface to you. When talking to them you are talking to an half-deaf being. A search engine just doesn’t know what exactly you have on your mind. Not the ideal map image – Step 3: Stepping down a littleWell, after a couple of searches, you may come to the point that it is not economical to hunt for the exact, ideal image you were looking for originally. You have the perfect idea of an image on your mind, but it is simply not available anywhere. The next step in hunting for your map is probably that you step down in your requirements. Around 80% of your ideal image could make you happy at this point.
Found the map – Step 4: Still not perfectSo, you found the map which is coming close to the image you were looking for. But … it is far too small. And you do not need all the extra information which is on there. It should be more plain. Well … you may need to go back searching for a different map or move on to Step 5.
A perfect match – Step 5: This map would be o.k. … but copyrightedAll the search for nothing. You found the map you can live with. It is not that perfect, but after scanning through your 105th image, you are tired of the search process and want to get it done. But wasn’t it bad enough already? Now you find out that this perfect image is copyrighted by Mr. John Doe? By law, you are not allowed to use a copyrighted image without the permission of the copyright holder. You now either get permission of John Doe or go back to one of the earlier steps in the map hunt. The ideal map – Step 6: Draw it yourself ... or check our the map galleryO.k. finally your search comes down to a handful of limited option. Option 1: You draw the map image by yourself. However, this is probably not very economical Option 2: You check out our gallery and see if you find your map there. |
